Why isn't there any command structure here? Or at least an oversight structure? I've just had to explain to one of our new arrivals, a Major General in the Egyptian Armed Forces, that there are four people here who could be considered to be in command, and the two who are invested in being in command have been butting heads at every opportunity.

Possibly because they keep butting heads at every opportunity?

Honestly, I can't give you a simple reason for it. There's no one leader everyone here will listen to - the one there was died around the time Jack and Romana both arrived. You've seen how divided loyalties are since then. I'm starting to regard the fact that no one's tried to kill anyone else down here as a minor miracle.

It seems fairly straightforward, to me – Captain Harkness oversees the civilian affairs and Romana oversees the angels and whatever politics they're invested in. Is there really that much contested territory?

Not until Romana starts drafting civilians because they're useful, which I'm certain she would have done before now if it weren't for Jack. There's also the matter of Romana taking offense to some of the people Jack and the Doctor choose to ally themselves with.

Ah. The usual politics, then.

Well, as much as anything is "usual" in this place.

It's best if you don't question the definition of "usual" here. Or "normal". At least in my experience.

I stopped doing that when I started waking up as a sun bear.

Still, this sort of arrangement really can't last, can it? It seems terribly untenable. Not to mention disorganised; that mess at the onset of the quarantine was a lucky outcome, compared to what it could have been.

I know. I got thrown into a wall because of this mess - I recognize the problem. Hopefully once Torchwood has a base of operations outside of the hotel, things will calm down a bit. We're working on it.

Oh. I'm sorry.

That can't be terribly easy, especially not with Captain Harkness under investigation. (Though, I'm assuming that the story information he's feeding the journals about a shape-changer is legitimate?)

[identity profile] definitivestep.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's legitimate. Do you honestly think I'd be working with him if I thought he might have killed someone?

Just double-checking my sources. You're the one who taught me that, yaar.

[identity profile] definitivestep.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
When you put it that way, it's very hard to hold it against you.

Well, if there's any way I can help, around my duties here, let me know, won't you? This job doesn't exactly have regular office hours, and honestly, there's not much for me to do hour-to-hour.
